A Time to Return
Madison Opera’s 2021/22 Season

Opera is for a lifetime, not just a minute.

– Kiri Te Kanawa

After a year of sharing music through a screen, we are so looking forward to being back in the theater with all of you. Nothing can replace the energy that we feel on both sides of the footlights as the curtain goes up, and artists and audiences share an unrepeatable moment in time.

Our 2021/22 season starts in Scotland (via Italy), travels to Hungary (via Broadway), and then finishes in Mt. Olympus and Hades (via France):

Lucia di Lammermoor is Italian opera at its most classic, with a soprano and tenor whose love is destroyed by a baritone, and the greatest mad scene of all time.

She Loves Me comes from the golden age of Broadway musicals, when young couples exchanged witty barbs, mistaken identities could be easily resolved, and happiness was just around the corner.

Orpheus in the Underworld is a delicious spoof of mythology, as gods and mortals collide. Nothing is taken seriously in Offenbach’s operetta, other than the need to have fun.

Every show offers the chance to connect with our community through music and drama, through tears and laughter, and through friendship and compassion.

Please join us as we return to the theater, and celebrate the sheer joy of shared operatic experiences.
